Most Dangerous Mode of Transportation this makes an interesting read and will possibly change your means of transport.
Compare four modes of transportation: scheduled airlines, railroad passenger trains (including Amtrak and commutation), buses, and cars (excluding vans and pickup trucks). In general, buses, trains, and airlines have much lower death rates than cars when the risk is expressed as passenger deaths per passenger mile of travel. (Car drivers are considered passengers but operators and crew of planes, trains, and buses are not.)
The one-year odds of dying ranged from about 1 in 6,000 in a transportation accident to about 1 in 45,000,000 from a spider bite. Lifetime odds of dying from any unintentional cause are about 1 in 36
If you are in a traffic accident this is what you should do. Switch off the engines of all vehicles involved. Activate hazard warning lights and alert oncoming traffic about the accident. In the event of serious injury, or obstruction, call the emergency services on 999 from a land line, or 112 from a mobile. Remain calm, do not admit liability or offer any form of settlement. By law the vehicles should not be moved. However if they are causing a serious hazard do so,. After any form of accident you must, by law, STOP. Again by law, you must inform the police of the accident within 4 hours if there has been any injury. You are also bound by law to present your motor vehicle insurance details to the police within 7 days. Exchange details with the other parties involved. This will include: names and addresses of the drivers and owners of the vehicles, together with registration numbers of the vehicles and insurance details.
